FAQ + Care Instructions

How to Care for your New Handmade work of Art!

You have purchased a functional piece of artwork (huzzah!!) and care should be taken in all handling, cleaning, and cooking. For the longevity of your functional art, it is best to follow these guidelines.

  • Washing: Hand washing is preferred to preserve the longevity of the pot.  The dishwasher can be rough on your pottery, especially if your piece has gold or mother of pearl luster applied. I personally run my more simple pieces through the dishwasher, but everything with sculpture bits and lusters gets the extra TLC and is exclusively hand washed.

  • Microwave: Technically your pottery is microwave safe UNLESS your piece has gold; the 22k gold on your pottery is real gold! Gold is a metal and like all other metals, it is NOT safe to microwave.

  • Thermal ShockPlease be careful of thermal shock.  You do not want to rapidly heat or cool ceramics.  This could lead to cracking and possible injury. For example, pouring boiling water into a cool mug could stress out the pot and result in a crack.  To avoid this, you can warm up your mug under warm water before pouring boiling hot liquid in it. Please do not put your ceramics in the freezer, it is not freezer-safe.

  • When is the next shop update? Once I feel like I have enough work or have completed a collection, I put the word out on all social media and to my email list. Timing depends on in person events, gallery exhibitions, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and rest. I typically have about 6 to 8 online shop updates a year.
  • What is the price range of your wares? The starting price for my mugs is $50, and goes up from there based on size and detail. My fancier pieces with luster and hand sculpted detail ranges from $65 - $200+
  • When is the next round of pre orders? I will not be doing any pre orders for 2021. I have new ideas I want to develop and so many glazes I need to use up, and the pre order model doesn't align with this. I hope you understand!
  • Do you take custom orders? Not at this time. My patrons get custom mugs once a year; those tiers are currently full.
  • When will you be making _____ again? I cycle though various designs for every shop update. If I didn't make what you were looking for this time, chances are it'll come around again soon! Face mugs and dice mugs are typically a part of every shop update.
  • What is the best way to contact you? Email is the best way to contact me concerning any inquires: ave(at)averivera(dot)com. I have dedicated times to reply to emails Monday through Friday.
  • How do you make your mugs? Most mugs are made using a slab roller to roll out the clay, and templates I've developed over the years. Then I carve, sculpt, and decorate them all using various techniques. If its not slab built, then it's pinched and coil built--basically everything but throwing on the potters wheel. I truly love hand building and the wabi sabi qualities this brings to my pots. If you are looking for perfectly round and symmetrical pottery, my work might not be for you.
  • What type of clay/glazes do you use? I use Laguna bmix 5 no grog. Most of my glazes are commercial; Amaco velvet underglazes, Clayscapes dipping glazes, Amaco Celadons, and Spectrum Floating glazes are a few of my favorite lines to play with.
  • What happens if my item breaks during shipping? I try my best to package them to the best of my ability, but breaks can still happen. I will either replace the item or offer a full refund. Please email me at ave (at) averivera (dot) com with photos of the broken item or reply to your receipt so we can work this out.
  • How do shop updates work? Before a shop update, I send a full photo gallery to my email list. Closer to the restock date I post a video on instagram. Sometimes I go live to answer any questions and show off the work. My patrons over on patreon get early access to most shop updates. I do hold some items for the main release to ensure there will be something cool to snag.

Shipping, Returns, Etc...

I accept returns and/or cancellations.  For returns, please contact me within 7 days of delivery and ship items back within 14 days of delivery. Once I receive the item in it's original condition, total cost minus shipping will be refunded.

For cancellations, they must be requested within 24 hours of purchase.

The following items can not be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:

  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Digital downloads

Conditions of return:
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.

Combine Shipping: I combine shipping where I can and refund any shipping overages. The best way to insure that I do combine the shipping, please reply to your order confirmation email with the other order number. If it is more cost effective and/ or safer for the pottery to ship things separately, I will opt for that.

Processing time: Orders ship within 3 to 5 business days. I ship via USPS priority mail or USPS first class, depending on size of order. Please note that especially during the holiday season orders may take longer to arrive due to circumstances beyond my control.

***International Buyers Please Note: The buyer is responsible for all customs, duties, and/or import taxes. Any delays caused by this is out of my control. COVID-19 has impacted international shipping the most, please be aware that shipping delays are inevitable for the foreseeable future. Thank you for understanding!
